Writer Su Byron interviews shopping columnist Kristy Kiernan for insider tips
By Su Byron
The Paradise Coast's shopping possibilities range from high-end jewelry to souvenirs.
Avid shopper Su Byron quizzed Kristy Kiernan, Gulfshore Life magazine's "Power Shopper" columnist, about the top (and top-secret) places for retail therapy in the Paradise Coast.
Su Byron:Where are the best places to consignment shop? Kristi Kiernan: Check out Options Thrift Shoppe, on Second Avenue North, operated by the Shelter For Abused Women and Children. I've found Escada, Armani, and Manolo Blahniks there, and felt good about helping those in need. A little further north, off of Immokalee Road in the Greentree Plaza, you'll find Hazel's Closet, Naples' newest consignment boutique. The owners are meticulous, and everything is cleaned and pressed before hitting the floor.
SB: Where can I find kitschy Florida souvenirs? KK: That's a no-brainer. Alvin's Island for alligator toe key-rings, conch shell nightlights, and flip-flop photo frames!
SB: I need to find a special dress for a gala.
Shoe shopping in Naples requires art and soles.
KK: Marissa Collections on Third Street South is the ultimate for eveningwear in Naples. From Vera Wang to Rheem Acra, they've got the designers and the service to please the most discriminating diva. Saks Fifth Avenue is the "go-to" when you need it in a hurry, and Zola Keller stocks party dresses I've not seen anywhere else.
SB: My sister loves shoes. Where should she go? KK: Pratt's Shoe Salon on Third, and Gucci, in Waterside Shops, both call to me when I dream of four-inch heels and trendy new boots.
SB: Where can I find an elegant piece of jewelry? KK: Yamron Jewelers (located in that shopping heaven, Waterside, as well as in Old Naples) carries exceptional pieces as well as "diamonds of distinction," and designer collections.
SB:When and where are the trunk sales? KK: First, you have to wait for the winter season, when many of the area's seasonal residents are in town. Then, you need connections. Marissa Collections lists its trunk show schedule on its Web site: www.marissacollections.com. RSVP early because once November hits, these events fill up fast.Top of Page
